The name of this blog
reminds of Math Ol’ Man, Mythoman, Math Zero Man, Mannomann!

The logo of this website
illustrates Euler's la famous formula  e^{i\times\pi}+1=0.  It brings together eight symbols and numbers that are fundamental in mathematics:

  • the relation =
  • the addition +
  • the multiplication \times
  • the number 0 (neutral element to the addition)
  • the number 1 (neutral element of the multiplication)
  • the transcendental number \pi (for calculating with cercles)
  • the transcendental number e (for exponential growth)
  • the imaginary number i (solution of the equation x^2+1=0).

The author of this blog
is me, , alias MathOMan.
I have studied maths in Munich, Nice, Bonn and Paris to graduate with a PhD (advisor: Frédéric Pham, referees: Mikhaïl Zaidenberg and Pierre Cartier).
Along with other authors I wrote the undergraduate text book Mathématiques L1 (published by Pearson Education). In september 2008 I started this blog in order to write about my everyday life with this crazy mathematics.
